About the Position: You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic at Manhattan, Kansas under the supervision of the Operations Project Manager on duties as assigned by the Work Leader to meet program objectives, work sequence and deadlines.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision.

Candidates must have the ability to perform common tasks of a Maintenance Mechanic such as: perform common maintenance worker tasks. Use and operate common hand and power tools, equipment, and/or measuring devices of the carpentry, plumbing, and/or painting trades. Have the ability to detect simple deficiencies and perform simple preventive maintenance tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works from ladders, scaffolds, and on platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels and climbs, and works in awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, handling heavy equipment, parts, tools and materials, pushing wheelbarrows and running power mowers.

Considerable arm movement in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and equipment operation work, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside a substantial amount of the time in all kinds of weather. Some work is done inside a shop where employee is subject to cuts from tools, and danger from flying chips, splinters, and similar objects. Is exposed to dirt and dust and some chemicals, compounds and fumes. Wears protective clothing when handling caustic and dangerous chemicals.

Is subject to danger of falls while working on moving equipment on structures over water frequently turbulent and sometimes in the proximity of moving machinery and electrical equipment. Occasionally may work behind bulkheads below water level. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of the job and environmental differential pay is not warranted for the duties performed. Life jacket worn at all time while operating motorboat.
